Whole-Person Dentistry
You know why you need a dentist. You know you should brush your teeth twice a day and use dental floss and mouthwash. You know you should have regular check-ups and cleanings, and you know that when you need to take care of your oral health, you go to your dentist. It’s obvious.
Here is another fact you should know: Your oral health is connected to and directly impacts the rest of your body. We know that, and we work with that knowledge every day, for every patient. Every time we make a diagnosis or recommend treatment, we know that we are going to impact your overall health. We also know that to better care for your oral health, we need to care about your overall health as well.
That is why we care about what and how you are eating, sleeping, exercising, and taking care of your whole body – not just your mouth. Watch the video to hear Dr. Brown talk about whole-person dentistry.
Explore the Connection Between Your Body and Your Oral Health
Whole-person dentistry is sometimes called holistic or biological dentistry. This is because it considers the patient as a whole person, mind, body, and spirit, and not just a mouth and teeth.
What a person eats (for example) can negatively affect their oral health by causing tooth decay. An unhealthy mouth will impact other areas of the patient’s health. It may disrupt their sleep, interfere with healthy digestion, make them too tired, or cause them too much pain to consider regular exercise. It is all interconnected.
If, however, our patients are eating healthy and have healthy teeth, then they feel better. Feeling better leads to making better choices about a healthy lifestyle. Eating better, sleeping better, getting exercise, making even better choices, taking care of yourself — it all becomes a virtuous cycle.
Our team is dedicated to helping our patients learn and understand the connection between oral and overall health and achieve their dental and general health goals. Call Freedom Dental of West Chester today to schedule an appointment at our office located in West Chester, OH.
