Care For Your Teeth Properly This Summer
We don’t know how you feel, but at Brown & Gettings, DDS, we are thrilled that the summer season is starting in a few short days. We have loved speaking with our patients over the last few weeks about all of their summer plans. Our patients with young children are planning day trips and activities to keep their children busy. Other patients have vacations planned. While others are going to be enjoying the longer days and nights with family and friends. No matter what your plans are, we want to share the importance of continuing to care for your oral health throughout the summer. We would hate for you to experience dental issues during the fall and winter. Here are some helpful tips:
Prepare for Vacation
If you are going on a vacation in the near future, we want to share the importance of bringing all of your dental supplies with you. This is particularly important if you will not have a mode of transportation, are visiting a tropical location, or wear clear aligners. Having all of your dental supplies takes out the stress and worry of needing to purchase what you forgot or disrupting your treatment plan. Before leaving, be sure to check that your luggage has everything you need.
Continue Your Oral Hygiene Routine
We know the last thing you want to do after a long day enjoying the summer is brush and floss your teeth. No matter how tired you may be, it is important to always care for your teeth. The summer is a time for sugary snacks and drinks, and we would hate for you to experience decay because you are not properly caring for your teeth. This is also especially important for any young members of your family.
Limit Sugar
Speaking of sugar, be sure to enjoy sugary treats and drinks in moderation. You would be surprised at how quickly decay can develop from prolonged and repeated exposure to sugar. While it is hot and you are looking for anything to quench your thirst, we want to remind you that soft drinks, juice, and sports drinks are extremely high in sugar. Try switching to water.
