Making Your Health a Priority
In the video, Dr. Brown mentions three categories he would prioritize in terms of overall health:
Eat Healthy
Simple changes can make a huge difference when changing your eating patterns. Avoiding foods out of a box or can as often as possible is ideal. Eat more fruits and vegetables and use more natural ingredients. When Dr. Brown needs a snack, he usually reaches for something portable like almonds or pistachios.
Exercise
Being active each day is so important for your health. If you are just starting out on your health and wellness journey, try to track your steps each day. There are a number of phones and watches that can do this. A workout buddy is also wonderful to help keep you accountable. Dr. Brown is a fan of using the Peloton App because there is such a variety depending on his mood, time and space available.
Sleep
Sleep is one of the most important things you can do for your health. As Dr. Brown mentions, quality sleep is not the time you are laying in bed; it is the amount of time you are actually sleeping. During sleep, your body is taking this time to recharge, healing and refueling the mind. Dr. Brown likes to average around 6-7 hours of sleep during the week and 7-8 on the weekends. While this isn’t ideal, he values quality sleep and has a specific nighttime routine.
It is important to remember that introducing healthy habits is a process. As Dr. Brown mentions, you can start doing one thing now and then make additional small changes as time goes on. If you start today, the difference you will see in a year will be remarkable. It is important for you to live your life to the fullest and be healthy not only for yourself, but for your family as well.
