Is Your Bad Breath Telling You Something About Your Oral Health?
At Brown & Gettings, DDS, we care about the state of your oral health. We recommend that patients visit our office for routine hygiene examination appointments, where we not only thoroughly clean their teeth but also look for problem areas in their mouths. Because we see patients so infrequently during the year, it is important that they are mindful of any problems or changes to their oral health.
Do you regularly experience bad breath? We all experience bad breath from time to time, especially after eating or drinking certain foods. The problem is usually solved once you brush your teeth thoroughly. However, if you notice persistent bad breath, you may have a problem with your oral health, such as:
Dental Decay
When tooth decay remains untreated, it will continue to progress and lead to problems in your mouth. Although it isn’t pleasant to think about, it is similar to rotting food that may have an unpleasant odor. Decay will continue to worsen until you get treatment.
Gum Disease
This dental issue does not have many warning signs to indicate that you have a problem. One of the few signs, though, is bad breath. If we recommend treatment for gum disease, be sure to schedule it as soon as possible.
Poor Oral Hygiene
One of the most common reasons for bad breath is a poor oral hygiene routine. Each time we eat and drink, bacteria and food particles remain on the teeth, between the teeth, and along the gumline. Bacteria buildup can turn into plaque and contribute to bad breath. It is important that you brush for two minutes twice daily and use dental floss daily as well.
If you notice that you have frequent bad breath, we suggest calling our office located in West Chester, OH to schedule an appointment. If you have a problem with your oral health, we want to determine the issue and create a treatment plan as soon as possible. We look forward to helping you restore your oral health.
